The Russian Defense Ministry has tested special trains. Trains with residential cars and workshops are designed to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters, as well as support combat operations. They will allow carrying out work in a sparsely populated area, Izvestia reports, citing sources in the defense department.
The special train was tested during the Zapad-2021 exercise, which ended on Wednesday, September 15. Next year, new trains will be ready to be sent to a combat zone or areas of natural disasters.
The train cars contain equipment that will make it possible to carry out complex repairs of combat vehicles. The railway workshop will allow the replacement and repair of electronic and mechanical units. During the Zapad-2021 exercises, a special train was used as a repair and restoration point. Specialists of the logistics support forces practiced evacuation, repair and return of combat vehicles to the units.
Also, a special train will allow you to quickly deliver equipment for rescue operations in sparsely populated areas. The new composition will complement the special-purpose trains available in the railway troops (ZHDV). So, the railway uses the recovery train "Amur" and the train of combat support "Baikal".
Earlier, military expert Alexey Leonkov suggested that the Russian military may again receive carrier trains for intercontinental ballistic missiles. In his opinion, the new combat railway missile system (BZHRK) can become a means of deterring NATO countries on the territory of Europe.
