The emergency alarm system in the Zvezda service module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) went off during automatic battery recharging, Roscosmos commented on press reports about smoke at the near-Earth laboratory.
"To eliminate possible smoke, the crew turned on an aggregate filter for cleaning the atmosphere — a means of on-board air purification. After cleaning the atmosphere, the crew of the ISS-65 expedition continued the night rest mode, " the state corporation notes.
The Main Operational Group for Managing the Russian Segment of the station (Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia) assures that "all systems are working normally, the air composition on board the station corresponds to the standard indicators."
According to RIA Novosti, which refers to the negotiations of the astronauts, at about 05: 00 Moscow time, an alarm went off on the ISS, the crew saw smoke and smelled it. Later, the devices showed the presence of harmful gorenje products. The fire occurred in the area of the medical cabinet "Stars".
In August, the general designer of RSC Energia, Vladimir Solovyov, said that the systems of the Russian segment of the ISS are in a high degree of wear.
