A fire has occurred in the Russian Zvezda module on the International Space Station (ISS). This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the negotiations of the crew broadcast by NASA with the Mission Control Center near Moscow.
Cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky said that at about 05: 00 Moscow time, an alarm went off at the station, the crew saw smoke and smelled it. Later, the devices showed the presence of harmful gorenje products. The fire occurred in the area of the medical cabinet of the module.
In turn, astronaut Tom Peske said that in the American segment of the station, due to the working ventilation, the smell of burnt plastic or electronics was also felt.
On August 30, it became known that the cosmonauts found new non-penetrating cracks in the Russian segment of the ISS, they appeared on the oldest, the first of the Zarya module put into operation.
In 2020, a leak was recorded on the Zvezda module, which, according to Roscosmos, provided a total drop in atmospheric pressure at the station at the level of 1 millimeter of mercury in eight hours. It took more than a month to find and eliminate it. Later, the toilet, vacuum cleaner and the Electron-VM oxygen production system broke down in the Russian segment. On March 10, it was reported that a new crack was found on the ISS. Cosmonaut Sergey Ryzhikov applied a second layer of sealant to it. At the same time, it was located near the pipeline of the heat supply system.
