The operation of the International Space Station (ISS) will not create any big problems until 2025, said Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of Roscosmos, on the air of the Solovyov Live YouTube channel.
The degree of wear and aging of the station was assessed by Roscosmos specialists together with colleagues from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). According to Rogozin, the longer the ISS is in orbit, the more you will have to invest in it. "To replace the equipment that, unfortunately, cannot even be absolutely modern," he stressed.
The head of Roscosmos added that the normal resource of the ISS will be the next four years, until 2025. American and Russian experts are confident that the station will work steadily during this period and there will be no serious problems. "Although cosmonauts and astronauts will spend more and more time on maintaining the viability of this station," Rogozin believes.
In recent years, several incidents have occurred on the ISS due to wear and tear. In September 2020, a leak was recorded on the Zvezda module of the Russian segment. In March 2021, a continuation of air leaks was found there after sealing two cracks. For 11 and a half hours, the pressure in the chamber decreased by 52 millimeters.
On March 10, it was reported that a new crack was discovered on the ISS.
