Russian-made over-the-horizon radars, among other things, track the movement of inconspicuous NATO F-35 fighters and other aircraft built using stealth technologies.
- It is possible to see them with the help of waves of a certain length. For example, the over-the-horizon radar "Container" operates in the range of so-called short waves, although their length reaches hundreds of meters. With them, the radio-absorbing coating of inconspicuous aircraft does not work, "Yuri Anoshko, general director of the RTI Systems concern, told RIA Novosti.
Stealth technologies, according to him, are designed to deceive centimeter - range radars-such are installed on combat aircraft and anti-aircraft systems.
- For over-the-horizon radar, stealth technologies are not an obstacle to detection. Knowing from open sources where the F-35s are based, and knowing that they flew sorties, we can certainly say that we saw them and accompanied them, " Anoshko said.
The operation of over-the-horizon radars is based on the property of the ionosphere to reflect electromagnetic waves. Thanks to it, radars of this type are able to track aircraft flights and missile launches at a distance of several thousand kilometers. The equipment of the complex allows you to accompany up to a thousand targets. The first "Container" went on combat duty in 2019, it controls Europe. The transmitting part of the radar is located in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the receiving part is a field of one and a half hundred 30 - meter antennas in Mordovia.
The concern "RTI Systems" is one of the hundred largest defense companies in the world. Among the holding's activities is the creation of advanced systems for detecting and tracking targets in the atmosphere and space. One of the latest developments is the radiophoton radar.
