The underwater complex "Yantar" will strengthen the mine defense of the waters of the Navy bases

The General director of the NCPPP Sergey Tsurkan noted that this complex can be placed on warships so that they can independently overcome minefields without the help of minesweepers

The robotic complex (code "Yantar"), first presented by the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant and the Kaliningrad Scientific and Commercial Design and Production Enterprise (NCPP) "Idrobaltika" at the Army-2021 forum, will strengthen mine protection of the waters of the naval bases of the fleet. This was announced to TASS on Wednesday by the general director of the NCPP Sergey Tsurkan.

"The mine defense of the waters of the naval bases of the Navy can be significantly strengthened by the multifunctional robotic complex "Yantar", which, with the help of its own remote - controlled uninhabited underwater vehicles, is able to effectively search, identify, classify and destroy underwater objects with significant sea waves and in conditions of zero visibility, " he said.

Tsurkan clarified that the Yantar complex includes remote-controlled uninhabited underwater vehicles (TNPA) capable of carrying a "payload"of different weights. They can be used when detecting mines, both by their own sonar stations and television cameras. At the same time, payloads can be installed on them to destroy mines. There is also a special radio beacon with which you can control the device via a radio channel, and not via a non-carrying fiber-optic cable connecting the command center of the ship's control with the TNPA directly.

In addition, the Yantar complex can be placed on warships so that they can independently overcome minefields without the help of minesweepers.

According to the general director of Idrobaltika, the Yantar complex could increase the mine protection capabilities of the mine defense ships of the 12700 Alexandrite project, which are being built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard. Since 2019, this enterprise has been carrying out the initiative development of a robotic complex based on light and medium TNPA at its own expense.

Tsurkan recalled that a similar mine defense system has already been installed on a Soviet-made naval minesweeper of the 266E project, which was previously delivered to Vietnam, turning it into a modern naval combat unit.

The TNPA presented at the stand of the Main Command of the Russian Navy is an underwater vehicle with five screws (a light vehicle with four), which allows it to perform tasks at a working depth of at least 300 m, at a current speed of 3 knots, sea waves up to three points. The weight of an average remote-controlled uninhabited underwater vehicle is 350 kg, light-60 kg. It has the ability to use payloads weighing up to 50 kg. Thanks to its design, the device easily dives to a depth and quickly floats to the surface. The TNPA is controlled by the operator in manual mode, information about its operation is sent to the console in real time.
