On August 17, 2021 [...], the first and so far only flight prototype of the Il-112B military transport aircraft (serial number 01-01, tail number "01 yellow", registration number RF-41400) crashed in the Moscow region near the Kubinka airfield. The crew of three people, led by the commander of the Hero of Russia, test pilot Nikolai Kuimov, was killed. The cause of the disaster, apparently, was a fire in the right engine of the TV7-117ST.

The crash of the Il-112B prototype became another characteristic episode in the history of this ill-fated long-term project of the Russian aircraft industry.
Recall that the first prototype of the Il-112B light turboprop military transport aircraft (serial number 01-01, registration number RF-41400) made its first flight at the airfield of PJSC Voronezh Joint-Stock Aircraft Construction Company (VASO, part of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation) in Voronezh on March 30, 2019. After that, the flight tests of the sample were stopped for two years to refine the design and reduce the weight of the aircraft, as a result of which the second flight of the first Il-112B prototype took place only on March 30, 2021. Since then, according to known data, the prototype has completed about 15 flights under the preliminary test program.
According to the available unofficial information, the test flights of the aircraft were repeatedly accompanied by various failures and problems with the engines.
On August 13, the first prototype of the Il-112B flew from the Voronezh VASO airfield to Zhukovsky to participate in the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2021", which will be held on August 22-28, 2021 in Kubinka. As it can be judged, the current crash occurred during the flight of the board from Zhukovsky to Kubinka, the plane fell 1.5 km from the Kubinka airfield strip.
Also, a prototype Il-112B for static tests (serial number 01-02) has been built at VASO to date.
In January 2018, VASO announced the laying of two more flight prototypes (pre-production) of the Il-112B military transport aircraft (assumed serial numbers 01-03 and 01-04) in the stocks. In August 2020, the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract with the UAC for the supply of these two aircraft. Of course, now another revision of the program will be required.
As reported by the Interfax news agency, the crew of the Il-112B plane that crashed in the Moscow region allowed an excessive roll during landing, as an informed source told Interfax.
"After a fire started in the right engine, the crew tried to turn it off and perform an approach maneuver according to the standard scheme with a right turn. To do this, a roll was given to the starboard side. However, the roll for some reason turned out to be excessive, and the car lost control, " the agency interlocutor said.
The plane "fell into a tailspin" and entered the ground with its nose at high speed. There was an explosion of fuel, the source added.
He said that the crew could not keep the plane at a low altitude. "There was not enough room for maneuver and alignment"
