During the joint exercises of the forces of the permanent task force of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea and the aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, tasks were worked out to repel the attack of enemy air assets and air defense training was conducted. This was told in the Russian Defense Ministry on June 28.

Air defense calculations improved practical skills in Syria to repel attacks by means of air attack. Special attention was paid to countering aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles of a conditional enemy.

The crews of MiG-31k aircraft, which have the ability to use the latest hypersonic missiles from the Kinzhal complex, which arrived at the Russian Khmeimim air base in Syria the day before, made regular training flights in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Also, long-range Tu-22m3 bombers carried out training flights.

"As part of the exercises, two MIG-31K aircraft flew to the Mediterranean Sea. Where we performed two tactical launches on conditional enemy targets. I think the goal of the exercises has been achieved, the match has worked out for an excellent rating! " added the commander of the MIG-31K crew.

According to the plan of the maneuvers, five ships of the Russian Navy, as well as two submarines "Stary Oskol" and "Rostov-on-Don", together with anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142mk, Il-38, long-range bombers Tu-22m3 and MiG-31K aircraft will perform combat training tasks to ensure the security of the air base and the logistics point of the Russian Navy in Tartus.

Aircraft crews acquire practical skills of working out training tasks in new geographical areas. Currently, flights from the Khmeimim air base can be made by all types of aircraft in service with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, including heavy-class aircraft.

"We receive reports on air targets, all this is calculated on the tablets of the long-range air situation. Then we go out to detect radar stations and perform the task of receiving target designation and transmitting it to the anti-aircraft-firing means of the ship, "said Anton Kruglov, senior assistant to the commander of the frigate Admiral Makarov.

At the maneuvers that began on June 25, the Russian Navy and the VKS will work out combined actions in the Mediterranean Sea of hypersonic weapons carriers, aircraft, ships, submarines and Bastion coastal missile systems.
