This year, the Airborne Forces will receive more than 13 thousand sets of modern landing equipment and parachute systems. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. These funds, among other things, will be used to equip two more paratrooper battalions with BMD-4M armored vehicles.
"A parachute cargo system will be adopted for landing cargo with a flight weight of up to 1,500 kg from military transport aircraft of the IL-76 type," the military department said.
They added that now in the interests of the Airborne Forces, the development of controlled cargo parachute systems of various load capacities for parachuting cargo to the designated area with high accuracy is underway.
Recall that now the air release of modern combat landing vehicles BMD-4M and armored personnel carriers BTR-MDM "Shell" is made, including with the help of the parachute system "Bakhcha-U-PDS".
Eleven blocks of its main parachutes (each with an area of 350 square meters) with forced supercharging, which reduces overloads, allow the equipment to enter the battle after landing without additional training. In other words, the soldiers do not have to waste time freeing the BMD and BRT from the devices that fix the equipment on the platforms.
Moreover, if necessary, the landing system will ensure the delivery of armored vehicles to the ground, along with the soldiers and officers inside. For this purpose, the necessary equipment is installed in the BMD-4M, special seats are made for personnel.
Here is how the commander of the Russian Airborne Forces Andrey Serdyukov once commented on this unique quality of the new amphibious equipment:
"The BMD-4M is produced in the amphibious version with placement inside the personnel. In this car, we can drop seven people.
Immediately after landing, the combat vehicle with the paratroopers in it is ready to perform the assigned tasks, including conducting combat and special operations. The ability to quickly leave the landing area after landing significantly increases its survivability."
The BMD-4M amphibious assault vehicle with the Bakhcha-U combat module is equipped with an automated fire control system and a new navigation system. The latest electronic equipment makes it easier for the crew to aim at high speeds while driving over rough terrain. The vehicle is armed with a 100-mm 2A70 cannon, a 30-mm 2A72 automatic cannon, a paired 7.62-mm machine gun, and Arkan anti-tank guided missiles.
The BTR-MDM "Rakushka" armored personnel carrier has a mass of 13.2 tons and is armed with two machine guns. The crew consists of two people, and the number of dropouts reaches 13 people. "Shell" is intended for transportation of personnel, ammunition, spare parts, fuel and lubricants. It is used in the Airborne and Marine Corps units.
