About the submarine
Khabarovsk is the second carrier of Poseidons. The first-the submarine "Belgorod" of project 09852 - was launched on April 23, 2019. Its transfer to the fleet was planned for September of this year. Initially, the submarine was built according to the 949A project, but later it was re-commissioned according to a special project. Both Belgorod and Khabarovsk should carry six Poseidon vehicles each.
For the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the creation of the underwater vehicle, later named "Poseidon", in a message to the Federal Assembly in March 2018. According to the president, such drones can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear weapons, which will allow them to hit a wide range of targets. The drone must have an unlimited range and a working depth of more than 1 km.
