Washington, April 1. INTERFAX-The carrier-based aircraft of the American aircraft carrier Dwight Eisenhower ("Dwight Eisenhower"), which entered the Eastern Mediterranean, began combat sorties in support of Operation Unwavering Resolve, the US 6th Operational Fleet said.
"The carrier strike group, led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Dwight Eisenhower, began operations on March 31 in support of Operation Unwavering Resolve from the eastern Mediterranean," the statement said.
Operation Unwavering Resolve, launched in 2014 against ISIL (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), is spreading to areas of Syria and Iraq.
In May 2018, as part of this operation, aircraft from the US aircraft carrier Harry Truman, also in the Mediterranean Sea, attacked ISIL terrorists in Syria.
"Our strike group is ready and capable of providing direct long - range combat air support from the eastern Mediterranean," said its commander, Rear Admiral Scott Robertson.
The Navy report notes that the group's presence in the area " demonstrates the U.S. Navy's ability to support Operation Unwavering Resolve from multiple theaters, as evidenced by the mobility, flexibility, and ability of U.S. carrier strike groups to project force."
In addition to the carrier, the carrier strike group includes the missile cruiser Monterey, the destroyers Mitscher, Laboon, Mahan and Thomas Hudner, as well as the supply ship Arctic.
