Moscow. February 18. INTERFAX - The decision to dispose of the heavy nuclear-powered cruiser Admiral Lazarev was made after assessing the technical condition of the ship, an industry source told Interfax on Thursday.
"Its restoration would cost more than the construction of several modern ships of the ocean zone," the source said.
"This is a really old ship that has been out of service for several decades. Plans for disposal are dictated by logic - there is a serial construction of new ships of the far sea zone, " he said.
The disposal of the heavy nuclear cruiser "Admiral Lazarev" will begin this year, according to the materials of the public procurement portal. According to the materials of the portal, the state Corporation "Rosatom" with the 30th ship repair plant signed a contract for " utilization of the heavy nuclear missile cruiser "Admiral Lazarev" project 1144.1 factory No. 801".
The cost of the work is 5 billion rubles. The cruiser should be installed on the cutting slipway of the 30th ship repair plant by the end of August 2021. The disposal works are planned to be completed by November 30, 2025.
The cruiser belongs to the Orlan project. "Admiral Lazarev" was transferred to the Navy in 1980. In the 90s, it was mothballed. Since that time, its fate has been uncertain, at various times, plans were announced for both modernization and disposal of the cruiser.
In total, four cruisers were built under the Orlan project. One of them - the flagship of the Northern Fleet "Peter the Great" - is in a combat-ready state. It was reported that the modernization of the "Peter the Great" will begin after the return to combat after the repair of the same type of "Admiral Nakhimov". The cruiser "Admiral Ushakov" was withdrawn from the fleet in 2002, it is also awaiting disposal.
The Admiral Nakhimov cruiser is currently undergoing a deep modernization. The ship is due to return to the Russian Navy at the end of 2022, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said in December 2020.
