TIGER Drone
The newly created New Horizons Studios division of Hyundai has published a detailed description of the new car, which it plans to work on. It became the ideological successor to the Elevate concept, a vehicle with a combined chassis that can drive and walk. The new product is called TIGER – "Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot".
TIGER is both a simplification of the Elevate design and an upgrade for practical use. The original concept was criticized for being too utopian and futuristic, and the developers themselves faced a number of difficulties, so they made a sensible decision to remove the most problematic element – namely, the passenger cabin. This immediately solved a number of safety issues and significantly expanded the scope of the potential application of the machine.
TIGER Drone
The TIGER device is a drone on a universal wheel-walking chassis, where each manipulator has six degrees of freedom and an autonomous power plant. All key elements of the structure are made of carbon composites and are created by 3D printing. The machine has retained the original sensor system for analyzing the terrain in real time and working out the optimal way to overcome obstacles. The carrying capacity of the TIGER is not specified, but the developers assured that a stretcher with a person, a module for sowing seeds, environmental analysis sensors for studying other planets and other equipment are placed on the platform. The most promising direction of development is a mobile platform for launching drones, especially since Hyundai already has its own division for the development of autonomous vertical take-off vehicles. Announced, for example, a new option for mutual energy exchange-TIGER will be able to recharge the drone, and the drone will be able to deliver replacement batteries for the ground vehicle.
