Admiral Vinogradov BOD will be upgraded and equipped with powerful missiles
Udaloy will protect the far East. The Ministry of defense plans to carry out a major modernization of the large anti-submarine ship (BOD) project 1155 "Admiral Vinogradov". After a long discussion, a fundamental decision was made to work out the possibility of turning the BOD into a multifunctional frigate. It will be armed with Kalibr and X-35 cruise missiles, and most importantly, it will be a carrier of hypersonic Zircons. In addition, Admiral Vinogradov will have significantly enhanced air defense systems. It is planned that the frigate will be part of the Pacific fleet. According to experts, the Russian ship will be one of the most powerful in the far East.
Fought with the pirates
Vinogradov is to become the second project 1155 ship to undergo a major upgrade. The first was upgraded "Marshal Shaposhnikov", which this year went on sea trials: it received launchers for cruise missiles" Caliber " and X-35.
As sources in the military-industrial complex and the Ministry of defense told Izvestia, a fundamental decision was made to work out the issue of upgrading the Admiral Vinogradov BOD. However, the issue will be finally resolved only after analyzing the condition of the ship itself, as well as the amount of work required.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors, the ship is expected to have more powerful equipment than the Shaposhnikov . The second upgraded representative of the series will receive additional launchers capable of firing Kalibr cruise missiles and hypersonic Zircons. In addition, it is planned to equip the frigate with more powerful air defense systems. It is likely that it will receive the Pantsir-M anti-aircraft system, the sources said.
Last year, information about a possible modernization project of Vinogradov appeared in open sources. They discussed, in particular, the installation of modern means of navigation, communications, electronic weapons, Kalibr complexes and the Package anti-torpedo system. However, no official information was published in this regard.

In total, twelve BOD were built under project 1155 Udaloy (another one was built under the improved project 1155.1). Now the Navy has eight ships of project 1155. "Marshal Shaposhnikov", "Admiral Vinogradov", "Admiral Panteleev" and "Admiral Tributs" are part of the Pacific fleet. "Vice Admiral Kulakov", "Severomorsk" and "Admiral Levchenko" are assigned to the Northern fleet. "Admiral Kharlamov" is in the sump. And "Admiral Chabanenko" - improved project 1155.1 - at the ship repair plant.
The udalys turned out to be technically perfect ships: the power plant avoided many of the problems that arise during the operation of boiler-turbine systems. The BOD is armed with the Polinom sonar station, the Rastrub-B anti-submarine missile system capable of striking surface targets, and the Kinzhal short-range air defense system. The ship's artillery armament includes 100-mm, 45-mm, and 30-mm automatic guns. On Board there are hangars for two Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters.
These BOD for many years were the backbone of the surface forces of the Navy. They have repeatedly participated in humanitarian operations outside the country's territorial waters. Admiral Vinogradov, which joined the fleet in 1989, also performed combat missions. In particular, in 2009, he protected ships from pirates in the Horn of Africa. On January 13, the frigate received a signal for help from the Dutch ship "Nadmold Barens", attacked by pirates on speedboats. A Ka-27 was raised from the deck, and when the sea robbers saw it, they stopped their pursuit.
Still serve
Last year, Vinogradov made a long-distance cruise with a call at ports in the Asia-Pacific region. And at the end of last November, he prevented the invasion of the USS John McCain into Russian territorial waters in the sea of Japan. Immediately after that, the destroyer, which went two kilometers deep into Russian territorial waters, returned to neutral waters.

— Initially, these ships were built as purely anti-submarine. The basic version does not have serious air defense and strike capabilities — " military historian Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia. - Now the fleet will receive a well-equipped multi-purpose frigate capable of solving a wide range of tasks. It will be able to strike both ground targets and enemy ships. And anti-submarine operations will be carried out at a higher level.
According to the expert, the Russian Navy is experiencing a great need for such ships.
— Now modern frigates of the project 22350 "Admiral Gorshkov" are being built for the fleet, - he said. — A total of ten ships have been ordered, but their creation is a long process. Only two frigates are currently in service. Therefore, while the series is being built, the main tasks will be performed by upgraded ships of Project 1155.
Today, the industry is struggling to build large ships in the ocean zone, former Chief of the Navy's General Staff Admiral Valentin Selivanov told Izvestia.
— We've only built the Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov frigates so far, and it's taken many years. When they will be joined by other representatives of the series, it is difficult to say now. "Daring" — large ships. they were built more than thirty years ago, when submarines were considered the main threat. Over the decades of their service, all technical means have gone far ahead. Therefore, the decision to re-equip the frigates is correct.
After modernization of "Daring" will serve at least five years, said the Admiral.
— They will be used as multi-purpose. On the one hand, they had powerful anti-submarine weapons: rocket torpedoes, torpedoes and bombs. I am sure that during the modernization they will be supplied with the most modern means of detecting submarines, " the expert stressed. — On the other hand, if they have missiles installed on them, it will be a strike ship. Large dimensions allow you to place on Board of a powerful air defense system. From the point of view of the ratio of cost and efficiency, this is a good choice. Such modernization is more expedient than building a new ship, which will be ten times more expensive, and it is still unknown when it will be finished.

Now the navy pays special attention to the fight against naval groups. The ships will be guided by aviation: the aircraft will be able not only to warn in advance of the appearance of the enemy, but also to issue instructions for cruise missiles of the S-400, S-500 air defense systems and ship-based SAMs. The MiG-29KR and MiG-29KUBR have already received information exchange systems, and the Su-33 is now being prepared for modernization.
