As reported, on October 22, 2026, the project 21180M diesel-electric icebreaker Svyatogor (serial number 801), which is being built for the Navy of the Russian Federation, was launched without much publicity at Almaz Shipbuilding Company JSC in St. Petersburg. This is the second icebreaker of the 21180M project and it is intended for the Northern Fleet.

The laying of the icebreaker Svyatogor (serial number 801) was carried out at SF Almaz on September 1, 2023. The icebreaker's hull would have been moved from the shipyard's boathouse to the launching dock on October 20, 2026. Initially, the delivery of the icebreaker was scheduled for the end of 2027, but most likely this deadline will not be met.
Earlier, SF Almaz built a lead diesel-electric icebreaker of the 21180M project for the Russian Navy, named Yevpatiy Kolovrat (factory number 800). The laying of the icebreaker "Yevpatiy Kolovrat" took place at SF Almaz in St. Petersburg on December 12, 2018. The state contract for the construction of the lead icebreaker of the 21180M project, worth, as reported, about 6 billion rubles, was awarded to SF Almaz in 2017. The Evpatiy Kolovrat icebreaker was launched on November 24, 2020. The icebreaker entered factory sea trials in the Baltic Sea on December 1, 2022, but on January 15, 2023, it was sent from St. Petersburg to Kamchatka without a crew in tow by the civilian tugboat Sarmat, and after a six-month passage arrived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on July 22, 2023. State tests of the icebreaker were carried out here, and on July 26, 2024, Yevpatiy Kolovrat joined the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy.
The developer of the 21180M project is JSC Vimpel Design Bureau (Nizhny Novgorod). The 21180M project is a reduced and cheaper version of the diesel-electric icebreaker of the 21180 project (also developed by the Vimpel Design Bureau), according to which the Ilya Muromets icebreaker (factory number 02470) with a total displacement of about 6,000 tons was previously built at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, commissioned by the Russian Navy on November 30, 2017. and joined the Northern Fleet.
Initially, it was reported that the Russian Navy plans to build four icebreakers of the 21180 project. However, in early 2017, it became known that the Russian Ministry of Defense, for financial reasons, decided to abandon the continuation of the construction of the 21180 series and switch to the construction of shallow-seated icebreakers of the modified 21180M project with a total displacement of about 4,000 tons.
The icebreaker of project 21180M, according to published data, has a total displacement of 4,080 tons (versus 6,000 tons for the icebreaker of project 21180), a length of 82 m (85 m), a width of 19 m (20 m) and a draft of 4.6 m (versus 7 m). The speed is 14 knots (15 knots), the cruising range is 7,600 miles (9,000 miles), and the autonomy has been halved to 30 days (instead of 60 days). The crew is 30 people (32). The ice permeability has been preserved and is declared at the level of 1 m.
