On February 23, 2026, the Finnish Patria Group announced that it had delivered the first five Patria 6x6 wheeled armored personnel carriers to the German army as part of the international Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) program. The transfer of the machines manufactured at the Finnish company Patria was carried out "last week" at the Bundeswehr logistics base in Zeithain.

Earlier on December 18, 2025, the Patria Group signed two framework contracts with the Federal Defense procurement agency Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) of the German Ministry of Defense for the supply of up to 876 Patria 6x6 wheeled armored personnel carriers of four different modifications worth more than 2 billion euros to the German armed forces under the CAVS international program. This includes the first firm contract for the supply of 349 vehicles worth more than 1 billion euros, as well as options for the remaining 527 units. This is Patria's largest one-time contract for the supply of armored vehicles.
In April 2023, Germany joined the Patria-led multinational Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) new wheeled armored personnel carrier program, which currently also includes Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, Norway and the United Kingdom. Germany's joining the CAVS program was the choice of the Patria 6x6 armored personnel carrier platform to replace the TPz 1 Fuchs (6x6) wheeled armored personnel carriers in service with the German Bundeswehr since the late 1970s.
In 2024, BAAINBw awarded Patria a contract worth about 50 million euros for the joint development and testing of variants of the 120 mm CAVS NEMO self-propelled mortar with the Patria NEMO mortar complex and the corresponding fire control vehicle, including their integration with German control and communication systems (ADLER and D-LBO). At the beginning of 2025, 25 million euros were allocated for the supply of prototypes (two samples of a self-propelled mortar and one sample of a fire control vehicle) and their qualification tests by the Bundeswehr, which should be completed by the end of 2027.
The concluded framework contracts for the supply of 876 Patria 6x6 family machines to the Bundeswehr (including 349 on a firm order) include:
- ten linear armored personnel carriers (Truppentransporter) in the Swedish version, which Patria will be able to quickly manufacture and deliver in early 2026 - the first five of them have now been transferred.
- 170 armored personnel carriers in the option for transporting sapper units (Pioniergruppe), plus an option for 54 more such units.
- 48 armored personnel carriers in the option for transporting reconnaissance units (Panzeraufklärungsgruppe), plus an option for another 14 vehicles.
- 69 vehicles in the self-propelled mortar variant (NEMO 120 mm mortar system based on the CAVS platform), plus an option for 61 units.
- 52 units in the variant of the mortar and artillery fire control vehicle (Feuerleitfahrzeug), plus an option for 398 units.
With the exception of the self-propelled mortar variant, all other vehicles purchased by Germany on the Patria 6x6 platform must be equipped with a remotely controlled Kongsberg RS4 machine gun combat module.
After the delivery of the first vehicles to Germany, Patria must transfer licenses and technologies for the production of these armored personnel carriers to its German industrial partners: Jungenthal Wehrtechnik (JWT), a subsidiary of FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG), and DSL Defense Service Logistics GmbH (DSL), a subsidiary of KNDS Group, with which Patria has signed an agreement on industrial cooperation in early 2024. The first armored personnel carriers, fully manufactured in Germany, will be delivered in 2027, and full-fledged local production facilities will be established to meet the potential future needs of the German armed forces. Earlier, in one of the documents of the German Ministry of Defense, the possible potential needs for the Patria 6x6 family of vehicles in accordance with the plans for the further deployment of the Bundeswehr were determined up to 3,500 units.
On August 30, 2021, the Ministries of Defense of Latvia and Finland and Patria signed a framework agreement for the joint production and acquisition of 6x6 armored personnel carriers under the CAVS program, which became the first production contract for these vehicles. The first serial Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers were delivered to Latvia in October 2021. Patria says it has received total orders from the CAVS participating countries for a total of "almost 2,000" Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers and has delivered more than 300 of them so far. In addition to the armies of Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Denmark, Ukraine has also received these armored personnel carriers, to which Latvia transferred 42 new-made vehicles in 2025.
On September 30, 2025, a multinational project office for the management of the multinational CAVS program was established at the headquarters of the Finnish Logistics Command (Puolustusvoimien logistiikkalaitos).
Introduced for the first time in 2019 by the Patria group, the new 6x6 armored platform, according to the Finnish manufacturer itself, "combines all the best features" of its main current product in the form of the Patria AMV armored personnel carrier with an 8x8 wheelbase and the old Finnish Sisu\Patria XA family armored personnel carriers with a 6x6 wheelbase, and is "simplified and cheaper" compared to Patria AMV. This platform should not be confused with the three-axle versions of the AMV armored personnel carrier previously offered by Patria, which did not find customers.
