TSAMTO, July 25. During his working trip to the Arkhangelsk Region, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the development strategy of the submarine forces of the Russian Navy.
Below is the introductory statement.Putin's statement at the meeting is provided by the Kremlin's press service.
Vladimir Putin:
"... Today we will discuss a range of issues related to the development of the submarine fleet, determine what has been achieved in recent years and what priorities should be focused on.
The Navy's submarine forces play a key role in ensuring Russia's sovereignty and security, protecting its interests, and making a significant contribution to regional and global stability and maintaining strategic parity.
I have repeatedly noted and repeat: we must have a modern, well-equipped fleet capable of adequately responding to both current and future threats and risks. Therefore, increasing the combat capabilities of the Navy, including the submarine forces, is one of the priorities – we attach the utmost importance to it.
Over the past six years alone, the Navy has included five Borey-A strategic missile carriers and four Yasen-M multipurpose submarines. This is in six years, that is, every year we introduce two boats, practically one and a half, so to speak, and this is very good.
This is one of the priorities – building up the grouping of strategic submarine forces. And, of course, the priority here is, first of all, the construction of strategic missile submarines – one of the most important components of our nuclear triad, which, I repeat, allows Russia to maintain a balance of power in the world.
In the coming years, four more Borei-A submarines will be added to our naval nuclear forces as planned. Two of them are under construction. These latest-generation strategic submarines are armed with Bulava ballistic missiles, as well as other modern weapons.
The main strike potential of the Navy's general-purpose forces is based on the Yasen-M project multipurpose submarines. Four Yasen-M project multipurpose nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines are under construction at Sevmash. The construction of two more submarines of this project is in the near future.
The missile carriers of this project are equipped with high-precision weapons, have modern means of navigation, communications and sonar. And the Perm cruiser, launched this March, became the first multi-purpose submarine armed with the Zircon hypersonic system. In this regard, it is important to continue the serial production of the Yasen-M project submarines.
Increasing the potential of non-nuclear submarines remains an urgent task. They are equipped with the Kalibr missile system and today they are on combat duty in all fleets.
Non-nuclear submarines of the 677 project are under construction. The lead submarine Kronshtadt has already been accepted into the Navy in 2024. In total, it is planned to build at least nine such submarines. I ask you to report today on how the serial production of boats of this project is going.
Last year, we approved a comprehensive target program for the creation of a new, fifth-generation strategic submarine. And today I would like to hear how the work on the implementation of this program is progressing.
And the last thing I would like to discuss is promising developments in the field of underwater marine multifunctional robotic systems.
It is obvious that these weapons, these weapons, will largely determine the future of the Navy. Therefore, the most important task is to ensure our primacy in this area.
Let's start working.
