The maneuvers will involve reconnaissance and attack FPV drones, as well as ground-based robotic systems.

During the Hamkorlik-2025 exercises, the Russian military will share with their Uzbek colleagues the experience gained in using drones and countering them during a special military operation. According to experts, the difficult situation in the region requires constant military training activities so that troops are ready to meet various, including non-traditional, challenges.

The purpose of the joint exercises of Russia and Uzbekistan

On July 16, the active phase of the Hamkorlik-2025 tactical exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan began, the Russian Defense Ministry said. During it, the military personnel will work out joint actions to manage units while destroying groups of illegal armed formations (IAF) in border areas that have violated the state border. As well as the organization of an assault and cleansing of settlements from imaginary militants, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Crews of reconnaissance UAVs and operators of FPV attack drones of the armed forces of Russia and Uzbekistan have already begun training on the search, reconnaissance and destruction of armed forces armored vehicles in an attempt to break through the state border. The military personnel promptly prepared the Muravey reconnaissance and attack drones and the PVC FPV drones for departure, and also practiced the use of the KTZ ground-based robotic system to deliver cargo and evacuate the conditionally wounded.

Exercises are taking place at the Termez training ground in Uzbekistan. The active phase will last until July 20. And on Monday, July 21, a solemn closing ceremony of the exercise will be held with the awarding of distinguished servicemen.

The Russian contingent is represented by units of the 201st military base of the Central Military District: mountain and assault units, reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles and FPV attack drones, as well as an aviation group of Mi-24 helicopters.

The unit's combat path began on June 1, 1943, when, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the 201st Rifle Division was formed in the Tosnovsky district of the Leningrad Region on the basis of the Leningrad internal security brigades, the border brigade and individual units of the Baltic Fleet Marine Brigade, which had been defending Leningrad since 1941.

In February 1980, the division, as part of a limited contingent of Soviet troops, was deployed to the territory of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan to provide international assistance.

In February 1989, the 201st Gatchina Double Red Banner Motorized Rifle Division was withdrawn from the Republic of Afghanistan and deployed on the territory of the Tajik SSR. Currently, it is located in two cities — Dushanbe and Kurgan-Tube — and has more than 6 thousand military personnel. The main way to complete the database is through a contract.

— An event of this scale is unique in many ways. The scale of the exercise, the composition of participants, the number of personnel involved, weapons, and military special equipment attest to the increased importance of joint training of our armed forces," said Major General Andrei Marushkin, commander of the 201st Russian military base.

On July 14, Russian military personnel marched as part of columns of military and special equipment through the mountains of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan for more than 300 km and arrived at the training ground. The military overcame roads and narrow sections of the mountain serpentine on BTR-82A, Ural vehicles, as well as special equipment based on the KamAZ vehicle, the military department noted.

Transfer of ITS experience to Uzbekistan

Following the visit of Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov to Uzbekistan earlier this year, a plan and program of military cooperation for this and the coming years were adopted, military expert Yuri Lyamin recalled.

"There were various joint activities, including exercises," he told Izvestia. — It should be noted that working out joint actions against illegal armed groups is a standard scenario for joint exercises in the Central Asian region, but since Uzbekistan is not a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), such events take place much less frequently with the military of Uzbekistan than with CSTO member countries, such as Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan.

It is obvious that the experience of a special military operation during the exercises will definitely be taken into account, as it explicitly states about the participation of calculations of shock FPV drones, which proved to be a formidable weapon in combat, the expert noted.

Also, in the south, the possibility of actions by various international terrorist organizations from the territory of Afghanistan or neighboring countries has traditionally remained. Andrey Grozin, head of the Central Asia Department at the Institute of CIS Countries, told Izvestia about this.

— A rather difficult situation is currently developing in certain areas of Pakistan. And what is happening in Syria after the collapse of the Assad regime does not inspire any optimism either. There are also questions about the presence of various international terrorist organizations in Iraq, and the 12-day Israeli-American conflict with Iran does not help Russia relax, keep its powder dry, and prepare for possible challenges and invasions. After all, such an environment requires constant military training events so that the troops are ready to meet various challenges, including non-traditional ones," he explained.

It is now important for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan to master the latest methods of warfare, including in difficult geographical terrain of mountainous terrain or urban development, the expert said. The Armed forces of the Russian Federation are now a world leader in mastering the possibilities of conducting combat operations in new conditions.

— Tashkent is connected with Moscow by very close ties of military-technical and military-political cooperation. And the transfer of the experience available to the Russian armed forces is one of the areas of this partnership, which is developing and, obviously, will continue to develop," Andrei Grozin said.

According to the expert, neighboring countries perceive these exercises favorably, since the maneuvers are not directed against sovereign states.

— If we look at the legend of these exercises under a microscope, it is impossible to consider the targeting of neighbors. After all, it is entirely based on countering illegal armed groups, and not regular military units. In terms of their content, the military training events that take place in Uzbekistan are focused precisely on the possible parrying of challenges from the south, which may also be of a regular nature. In particular, this is preparation for countering the methods of proxy wars," he concluded.
