The fourth-generation nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk of the Yasen-M project has arrived at the permanent base of the Northern Fleet (SF). This was announced on January 27 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Alexander Gladkov, commander of the cruiser, Captain of the first rank, reported that the crew had completed the interbase crossing in full, the ship's equipment was in good working order, the personnel were healthy and ready to complete their tasks.
On behalf of the Commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov, the Commander of the Northern Fleet's submarine forces, Vice Admiral Anatoly Kovalenko, congratulated the ship's crew on their arrival at the permanent base. He expressed confidence that the crew of the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine would strengthen Russia's defense capability with dignity and high quality.
"For the city, for the base, the new ship is like a new sprout of life, which will continue the development of both the city and the entire base. Because it's new, this ship will serve for a very long time," said Vice Admiral Kovalenko, commander of the Northern Fleet's submarine forces.
Alexander Fedotenkov, a representative of the St. Petersburg Marine Bureau of Mechanical Engineering Malakhit, a veteran of the Russian Navy, conveyed parting words to the crew of the cruising submarine on behalf of the shipbuilders, and Abbess Sofia, rector of the Voskresensky Novodevichy Monastery in St. Petersburg, handed over to the submarine commander an icon of St. Michael the Archangel, consecrated by Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga.
"From the very beginning, the crew took part in all the tests, starting from the mooring lines. After the mooring tests, we switched to factory sea trials. And at the end of the factory running, respectively, they came to the state tests of the ship. The ship turned out to be a good one, of course, it's new. It is the most modern of the four ships that were built, because it has already taken into account all the comments that were identified on the previous three ships," Gladkov shared.
In the near future, the crew of the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine will have to work out the tasks of the training course, after which the ship will become part of the permanent readiness forces of the Northern Fleet.
Earlier, on December 27, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine of the Yasen-M project 885M had joined the Russian Navy. The ceremony of handing over the submarine took place at the plant of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Sevmash.
On December 21, it was reported that the Arkhangelsk submarine had completed all tests. The program was carried out in accordance with the schedules that were agreed with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
A day earlier, Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, announced that the Knyaz Pozharsky and Arkhangelsk nuclear submarines would be transferred to the Navy soon. At the same time, he clarified that the need to have such vessels in the fleet is dictated by the need for effective and modern weapons, which are precisely carried by strategic and multipurpose submarines.
In addition, on December 8, it became known that Western countries unnecessarily underestimate the Project 885M submarines, since they are capable of traveling long distances while remaining completely invisible. They can carry Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, which are capable of overcoming any missile defense system and causing "destruction of an almost biblical level."
