Generals and a colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were detained for the loss of territories in the Kharkiv region
Two generals and a colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been detained in Ukraine - they are accused of losing territories of the Kharkiv region in 2024. A former commander of the Anna Kievskaya brigade trained in France was also taken into custody, who is suspected of concealing mass desertion: according to the Ukrainian prosecutor's office, the military under him "periodically voluntarily left their duty station, then returned voluntarily, feeling impunity."
Three high-ranking military personnel were detained in Ukraine for the loss of territories in the Kharkiv region. As stated in the State Bureau of Investigation (GBR) of the country, we are talking about two generals and one colonel.
According to the agency, their actions led to the displacement of Ukrainian troops from part of the territories of the Kharkiv region in May 2024, as well as "losses of personnel and weapons, disruption of measures to defend the state border in their area of responsibility."
The GBR did not disclose the identities of the detainees, however, according to Ukrayinska Pravda, they are Brigadier General Yuri Galushkin, Lieutenant General Artur Gorbenko and Colonel Ilya Lapin.
The investigation believes that Galushkin "identified defensive positions for the 125th Infantry regiment [of the Armed Forces of Ukraine] that did not correspond to its combat capabilities" and did not reinforce them with other units, although he could. In addition, he made other mistakes: "he did not fully specify the directions of the enemy's main attacks," "he did not organize the support of the brigade units with artillery and air forces," etc.
Lieutenant General Gorbenko "underestimated the capabilities of the enemy," "did not ensure the arrangement of combat guard positions," "determined excessive combat tasks for the battalions," and even "did not ensure the presence of all brigade personnel, including officers in their positions."
Finally, Colonel Lapin did not organize the defense of the settlements of Strelechye, Liptsy and Slobozhanskoe, "did not take measures to stop the unauthorized departure of 12 battalion soldiers" and "did not comply with the brigade commander's order to restore lost positions."
According to the office of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, the investigation is now deciding whether to charge the detainees with neglect of military service, and the colonel is also charged with unauthorized abandonment of the battlefield.
"After the notification of suspicion is served, the issue of applying a preventive measure in the form of detention without bail will be resolved," the Prosecutor General's office stressed.
Mass desertion
The GBR also reported on the detention of the former commander of the 155th separate mechanized brigade "Anna Kievskaya". His name was also not disclosed, but a source of the publication "Public" in law enforcement agencies said that it was about Dmitry Ryumshin.
He is accused of concealing the extent of desertion of military personnel from the brigade. According to the GBR, he "did not respond to offenses in his unit, including the unauthorized abandonment of a military unit by his fighters," and also never in 2024 sent data on subordinates who had committed criminal offenses to the pre-trial investigation authorities. At the same time, subordinate officers submitted relevant reports to him, which remained motionless.
The office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine clarified that cases of desertion from the brigade occurred "during exercises on the territory of the European Union and during combat missions on the eastern front."
Now Ryumshin may be charged with suspicion under the article of the Ukrainian Criminal Code on the inaction of military authorities committed under martial law. In addition, the investigation will check information about possible corruption schemes in the brigade during the selection of military personnel for training abroad and receiving bribes for evading service.
The brigade of Anna of Kiev (it is named after the daughter of Prince Yaroslav the Wise Anna, who became the wife of the French King Henry I. - "Gazeta.Ru") were trained in France and Poland, and Western military equipment provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was used in the training.
In January 2025, Forbes magazine reported that the brigade began to disintegrate even before arriving at the front: out of 5,800 soldiers, about 1,700 deserted during training. As a result, the actual number of units was significantly lower than the list. And this led to the defeat on the battlefield near Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name Pokrovsk).
