As explained in the Italian companies Drass and Leonardo, in the context of the movement of marine threats from deep-sea areas to coastal and shallow waters, they decided to join forces to create a small-sized attack submarine.

As a result, the unobtrusive underwater vehicle DS8 Swimmer Delivery Vehicle ("equipment for the delivery of swimmers", SDV) from Drass, originally designed for patrolling and performing reconnaissance operations, was transformed into a shock vehicle, receiving two TA for launching Black Scorpion mini torpedoes from Leonardo. In this configuration, it is planned to be used for anti-submarine warfare.
