Azerbaijan has developed its own version of the modernization of Soviet T-72 tanks in service with the army of the republic, an improved tank was shown during the ADEX 2024 international defense exhibition in Baku. This was reported by the TG channel "Voivode broadcasts".
Unfortunately, there is no information on the internal modernization of the tank, except that in this configuration the T-72 received Israeli-made electronics. Modern fire control and aiming systems are also installed on the tank, possibly also Israeli. From the outside, the upgraded tank was reinforced with dynamic protection, lattice screens and a so-called "grill" was installed to protect the upper sphere of the tower from drones. The improvements are clearly made taking into account the experience of the Russian military in Ukraine.

For our part, we note that this is not the first modernization of T-72 tanks carried out by Azerbaijan, back in 2013 it was reported that the republic had begun upgrading T-72 tanks to the level of T-72 Aslan ("Lion"). The project was developed by the Israeli company Elbit Systems together with representatives of the Azerbaijani industry.
The upgraded T-72 Aslan received a new fire control system that allows you to receive information about the battlefield, as well as fire a guided missile. The driver mechanic and the gunner operator received thermal imaging cameras. The tank is capable of firing in any weather conditions and at night. A navigation system has been installed, as well as a "friend-foe" system.
It should be recalled that after the collapse of the USSR, the Azerbaijani army was armed with slightly more than 400 T-72A/AV/B tanks, how many of them underwent modernization is not reported.
