The forces of the Northern Fleet have practiced the use of anti-submarine weapons in the Barents Sea
MOSCOW, 11 Sep - RIA Novosti. The forces of the Northern Fleet, as part of the Ocean-2024 exercise, searched for submarines of a simulated enemy and practiced the use of anti-submarine weapons in the Barents Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"As part of the strategic command and staff exercise Ocean-2024, the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet began searching for submarines of a conditional enemy in the waters of the Barents Sea and countering them. This episode of the exercise is being played out in a bilateral format," the message says.
The Ministry clarifies that two naval search and strike groups are involved in this episode of the exercise, as part of which the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Levchenko and the small anti-submarine ships Brest and Snezhnogorsk perform anti-submarine tasks. Multi-purpose nuclear submarines, anti-submarine aviation of the Sevflot mixed aviation corps - long-range anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142, anti-submarine aircraft Il-38 and shipboard anti-submarine helicopters Ka-27PL are also involved.
The anti-submarine forces of the fleet, together with anti-submarine aviation and a nuclear submarine missile cruiser, began checking the lack of tracking of fleet forces and searching for submarines of a conditional enemy, establishing control over navigation in designated areas of the Barents Sea. Tu-142 long-range anti-submarine aircraft and Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft operated on the far borders. In the near zone, the submarines of the imaginary enemy were looking for Ka-27 naval anti-submarine helicopters.
The combat crews of the nuclear submarine have worked out underwater maneuvering and the use of sonar weapons in active search mode, worked out the combat organization of the crew and the algorithm of actions when detecting and attacking an underwater enemy. Surface maneuvering, the use of sonar and anti-submarine weapons were practiced by the crews of large and small anti-submarine ships.
At the final stage of the anti-submarine episode of the exercise, the crews of the ships worked out the complex use of anti-submarine weapons with the performance of a number of practical combat training exercises, including torpedo firing, depth bombing, rocket-torpedo firing.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense announced the start of the planned strategic exercise Ocean-2024, which will last until September 16 inclusive. The exercise is conducted in a bilateral format under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev.
The maneuvers, which take place in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, the Caspian and the Baltic Seas, involve more than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels of the auxiliary fleet, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters of naval aviation and Aerospace Forces, about 7 thousand units of weapons, military and special equipment, as well as more than 90 thousand personnel.
The main objectives of the exercise are to check the readiness of the leadership of the associations and formations of the Navy to manage heterogeneous groupings of forces in their areas of responsibility, solve non-standard operational tasks, complex use of high-precision weapons, promising and modern models of weapons and military equipment during the practical part of the exercise, as well as expand cooperation with the naval forces of partner countries in solving joint tasks at sea.
