The main purpose of the large-scale naval exercises, which started on Tuesday, is to check the actions of the military authorities of the Navy at all levels. The maneuvers take place in the operational areas of the Northern, Pacific and Baltic Fleets, as well as the Caspian Flotilla. About 300 Naval combat units and over 20 thousand people are involved in them. On the first day, minesweepers, missile boats, anti-submarine ships, submarines and other forces performed their intended tasks. These are the first major exercises after the fleets were returned to the subordination of the main command of the Navy, experts say.

We went to sea
Large-scale naval exercises began on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Defense, within a few days the crews of ships, naval aviation units and coastal troops of the three fleets and the Caspian Flotilla will perform over 300 combat exercises with the practical use of weapons. In particular, anti-aircraft missile firing, artillery firing at sea and air targets will be carried out. And in addition, combat exercises on setting passive interference to withdraw forces from the attack of a conditional enemy, as well as on the use of anti—submarine weapons of surface ships and naval aviation.
"The main purpose of the exercises is to check the actions of the military authorities of the Navy at all levels, as well as the readiness of the crews of ships, naval aviation units and coastal troops of the Russian Navy to perform tasks according to their intended purpose," the military department noted.

— Significant forces have been raised, probably everything that can go to sea and take off is involved, — military expert Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia. — First of all, apparently, there is the task of testing the combat control system: checking how the communication and control organs work, how the command sees the ships. This is the most difficult and most important thing — that the lines of interconnection between all structural divisions are established both vertically and horizontally, so that commands are passed in a short time, correctly understood and executed. In general, it is very difficult to put such a large number of forces into the sea.
These are the first major exercises that are being held after the reassignment of fleets to the Commander-in-chief of the Navy, which took place at the end of last year, military expert Viktor Litovkin noted.
— During the maneuvers, the fight against other fleets, submarines, strikes on coastal facilities, aviation, unmanned naval boats, UAVs and much more will be practiced, — he told Izvestia. — Aviation, fleet air defense, and the ship supply system with everything necessary — from ammunition to drinking water - will take part in them. During them, ships will be transferred from one port to another.
The expert noted that these are complex exercises that are of quite important strategic importance.
"Strategic aviation and a satellite grouping will be involved," he reminded.
Viktor Litovkin noted that the Black Sea Fleet does not participate in maneuvers, as it is involved in combat operations within the framework of its own.
— Marines, ships, air defense, fleet aviation solve real combat tasks, — he noted. — They guard the Crimean Bridge, Sevastopol, and important facilities. They carry out measures to control the waters of the Black Sea and the airspace above it.
Such exercises are led by the Main Headquarters of the Navy, which is located in St. Petersburg, as well as the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation - they interact with each other.
— A network—centric system has been created when the Ministry of Defense, the Main Headquarters of the Navy, the forces of the fleets and the Caspian Flotilla, as well as the satellite grouping interact with each other, - the expert noted.
On the Pacific Ocean
The press service of the Pacific Fleet clarified that on the eve of the tactical groups of ships sailed from their bases in Vladivostok together with warships and boats of the border department of the FSB of Russia in the Primorsky Territory.
"During the exercise, Pacific sailors, together with border guards, will perform a set of combat training exercises to detect, identify and defeat targets simulating small-sized surface and air objects, in accordance with the plan of the interdepartmental exercise for the protection and defense of bases and maritime communications," the fleet's press service reported. From the FSB border control, the patrol ship Commander, the patrol ship Nakhodka and two patrol boats are involved.
In Kamchatka, sailors will work out issues of protection, protection and defense of ship bases, ships, coastal facilities and bases, as well as interaction between ministries and departments.
In the North
In the Northern Fleet, the base minesweepers Kolomna and Solovetsky Junga were the first to enter the Barents Sea. Their crews began searching for mines to ensure the safety of the exit of the heterogeneous forces of the fleet. After them, the small anti-submarine ships Brest and Snezhnogorsk entered the Barents Sea from the Kola Bay, which began searching for submarines.
The deployment of the naval strike group was indicated by the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov. After leaving the Kola Bay, his crew conducted a shipboard exercise on air defense, as well as on defeating a naval grouping of a conditional enemy.
The multi-purpose submarines went out with the task of covertly deploying to designated areas and countering the naval forces of the fleet.
The press service of the SF clarified that in the near future, ships and vessels of the Arctic Expeditionary Group will join the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet in solving combat training tasks at sea.
In the Baltic Sea
In the Baltic, the crews of the small anti-submarine ship Aleksin and the missile boats Dimitrovgrad and Morshansk performed artillery firing on targets simulating warships and air attack vehicles. Missile boats have also worked out electronic missile launches against naval targets.
— In order to work out interspecific interaction, warships and boats of the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in the Kaliningrad region were also involved in the exercise. Their crews, in cooperation with the Baltic Fleet forces deployed at sea, have worked out a set of measures to protect and defend maritime communications and fleet bases, the press service of the Baltic Fleet said.
On July 29, the military department reported that the corvette "Savvy" of the Baltic Fleet and the destroyer "Jiaozuo" of the Chinese Navy conducted joint exercises in the waters of the Gulf of Finland. Both ships took part in the main naval parade in St. Petersburg the day before.
The ministry noted that the crews, using radio equipment, discovered "minefields" installed by the conditional enemy and destroyed them with fire from artillery installations, and also jointly worked out search and rescue operations and assistance to a conditional surface ship damaged in battle, and rescue of personnel on the water.
"During the training, the servicemen of the two countries completed the tasks of lifting the rescued ships on board and providing first aid to the victims," the Defense Ministry said.
