A video has appeared online, allegedly of the second use of the FAB-3000 high-explosive aerial bomb with a universal planning and correction module (UMPC). The video was published on the Telegram channel "Inside Out".
"According to information from the field, the strike was carried out on the location of the 3rd battalion of the 13th separate special purpose brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine," the report said. According to him, Ukraine's losses as a result of the strike amounted to 70 people.
Allegedly, a school on Pushkinskaya Street in the village of Liptsy in the Kharkiv region came under attack. According to the channel, there was a deployment point in it.
In the video, you can see the bomb. It falls not into the building itself, located in the center of the frame, but next to it. An explosion occurs, which, nevertheless, causes significant damage to the structure.
TASS, citing a source in law enforcement agencies, reported on June 20 that "the Russian Aerospace Forces used the FAB-3000 with UMPK for the first time." The strike was also reportedly carried out on one of the buildings in the village of Liptsy.
And here it did not work out an accurate hit on the building - the bomb lay about ten meters away from it.
"A direct hit into the house, as most ordinary people and infantry chiefs would like, did not work out," writes the author of the Telegram channel Fighterbomber, but says that this is an "excellent result" and calls for a discount on the first use of ammunition.
The authors of the Telegram channel "Military Informant" write that it is too early to draw conclusions from the first two videos of the use of bombs.
"The reality is that it is much more effective to drop four 500 or even 250 kg bombs on a building, but which will hit it, killing and wounding those inside, than one three-ton one, which will provide unrealistic emotions to everyone sitting inside, but at the same time it will simply miss," the author of the post writes.
He expressed the hope that the deviation of the FAB-3000 will be compensated, or appropriate targets will be selected for it.
Improved Soviet development
The Russian FAB-3000 is capable of causing serious damage to enemy targets, writes the German edition of Focus.
The ammunition contains 1.2 tons of explosives.
Many of the types of fabs that are now actively used in the military appeared back in the 1950s, but then they were free-fall bombs, the military observer of the Newspaper wrote earlier.En" Mikhail Khodarenok.
"Now, when such bombs are re-equipped, the tail section is changed to an UMPC with steering surfaces. The control unit directs the munition to the target with the help of a global positioning system. In addition, the bomb is equipped with folding wings, which, after separation from the carrier aircraft, open and allow the ammunition to fly up to 70 km. Thanks to this, Russian bombers can use fabs with UMPC without entering the affected area of most anti-aircraft missile systems and complexes of the enemy," Mikhail Khodarenok explained.
Such modifications have turned free-fall bombs into high-precision ammunition.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine can fight them using Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems deployed close to the front, or F-16 fighters to destroy carrier aircraft. That is why Ukraine is so actively asking for these types of weapons from the United States.
At the same time, Khodarenok writes, the FAB-3000 is not the largest aerial bomb available to the Russian Aerospace Forces.
"There is also the FAB-5000, which can be used by long-range Tu-22M3 bombers, on the equipment of long-range aviation of the VKS. During the exercises, where the bombing of such ammunition took place, the craters after the explosion resembled the craters of volcanoes.
