Footage of the combat operation of the Volga armored train in the area of the special operation in Ukraine has been published online. The tasks of the special Volga armored train include conducting technical reconnaissance and carrying out mine clearance of sections of railway tracks, if necessary, their restoration. In addition, the armored train accompanies cargo.
In case of detection of damaged sections of railway tracks, the personnel of the special train are able to eliminate the identified damage on their own in order to then ensure the movement of trains delivering a large part of everything necessary to perform tasks in the area of their own – from equipment and ammunition to fuel and lubricants and provisions.

The Volga armored train is equipped with armored protection, weapons, military equipment and firepower are placed on its platforms, as well as shelters for firing and repelling enemy attacks. Volga is armed with all types of small arms, anti-aircraft and tank machine guns, 82 mm mortars, as well as a BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle with an automatic 30 mm 2A32 cannon.
Unlike its sister train "Yenisei", which was built mainly for logistics and transportation of refugees, "Volga" is mainly used for engineering work, reconnaissance, mine clearance, restoration of damaged railway tracks and cargo escort.
