Izvestia: Admiral Moiseev appointed acting Commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy instead of Evmenov

The media reported on the resignation of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov. Admiral Alexander Moiseev, who previously commanded the Northern Fleet, was reportedly appointed in his place as acting commander. The change of commander-in-chief was confirmed by the former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov.

The commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, has been dismissed, and Admiral Alexander Moiseev, who previously commanded the Northern Fleet, will take his place. This is reported by Izvestia and Fontanka, citing sources.

According to Fontanka, although information about Evmenov is still available on the official website of the Ministry of Defense, the decision to appoint Moiseev to the position has already been made. It is expected that in the near future he will be released from the prefix "acting".

Information about Evmenov's resignation was also confirmed by the former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov. Official information about the change of the commander-in-chief of the Navy has not yet been received from the Ministry of Defense.

Who is Admiral Moiseev?

Admiral Alexander Moiseev was born on April 16, 1962 in the Kaliningrad region. His professional career began in a film repair workshop, where he worked as a master adjuster before he was called up to serve in the Ural Military District.

Moiseev received his military education in St. Petersburg. First, he entered the Popov Higher Naval College of Radio Electronics, and then continued his studies at the Higher Special Officer Classes and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy.

During his military career, he commanded the Dolphin Project nuclear-powered missile submarines and the K-117 submarine. In 1994, as a senior assistant to the commander of the nuclear missile submarine K-18 Karelia, Moiseev was awarded the Order of Courage for a trip to the North Pole, where the crew raised the St. Andrew's and Russian flags.

In 1998, he commanded the nuclear-powered missile submarine K-407 Novomoskovsk and successfully launched two German commercial microsatellites into low orbit.

In the following years, Moiseev held various command positions, including Chief of Staff and commander of the 31st Submarine Division. His contribution to the development of the Russian Navy was marked by his promotion to Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and Commander of the Black Sea Fleet. In addition, he also served as a deputy of the Council of Deputies of the city of Alexandrovsk.

What is Evmenov known for

Yevmenov was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Navy by presidential decree in 2019, replacing Vladimir Korolev in this post. Prior to that, he commanded the forces of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), replaced the commander of the Northern Fleet.

As commander-in-chief of the Navy, he instructed to equip all new Russian ships with hypersonic Zircon missiles. Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, Evmenov has advocated the active introduction of new technologies into the ship construction process and strengthening the protection of the fleet from drones. In the summer of 2023, the Ministry of Defense approved a plan to strengthen the protection of Navy ships from surface and underwater drones.

During his service, Evmenov was awarded the orders "For Military Merit", "For Naval Merit", Alexander Nevsky and other awards.
