Long-Range Aviation Day
Every year, on December 23, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) celebrate a memorable date - the Day of Long-range Aviation of the Russian Air Force. It was installed in 1999 by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force Anatoly Kornukov. On December 23 (December 10, old style), 1913, the first test flight was made by the Ilya Muromets four-engine heavy bomber, the largest aircraft in the world at that time, created by Russian aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky. Exactly one year later, on December 23, 1914, by decree of Emperor Nicholas II, the world's first squadron of such aircraft was formed. This date is considered to be the day of the creation of the Russian long-range (strategic) aviation.
