The strategic deterrence forces conducted exercises in which they worked out a massive nuclear strike on the enemy. According to the Kremlin, the exercises were led by Vladimir Putin.

The President heard a report by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. So, Shoigu reported to Putin that Russia's nuclear forces are ready for war.

In turn, the head of the General Staff announced the order of the exercises. The Yars missile systems, the Tula strategic missile submarine of the Northern Fleet with the Sineva ballistic missile on board and two Tu-95MS long-range missile carriers took part in them.

The exercises included the launch of the Yars ICBM from the Plesetsk cosmodrome at the Kura test site, the launch of the Sineva ICBM from the Tula submarine in the Barents Sea and the launch of air-launched missiles from the Tu-95MS. At the same time, the level of training of the military authorities was checked.

In conclusion, the Kremlin stressed that all the tasks of the exercises were completed.

Yars is Russia's most massive missile system

The Yars complex with a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was developed by specialists of the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering. "Yars" is a modification of the "Topol-M" complex. As of 2022, Russia's arsenal included 153 Yars mobile ground complexes and 20 mine-based complexes.

The missile complex with a range of up to 12 thousand kilometers has received new means of overcoming missile defense. It is believed that Yars remains the most massive missile system in the Strategic Missile Forces. The mobile version of the complex on the MZKT-79221 eight-axle chassis allows you to strike from any point of the patrol route.

What is the Sineva rocket capable of?

The ballistic missile of the submarines R-29RMU2 "Sineva" was adopted in 2007. The carriers of the three-stage liquid rocket developed on the basis of the R-29RM missile were the strategic submarines of the 667BDRM Dolphin project. Each submarine can carry up to 16 missiles. The Tula submarine, from which the Blue was launched during training, was launched in 1987. By 1998, the submarine had traveled more than 77 thousand nautical miles underwater.

Tu-95MS can carry more than 20 tons

The Tu-95 strategic bomber, which made its first flight in 1952, remains the fastest aircraft in the world with turboprop engines. The aircraft received four NK-12 engines. The Tu-95MS version reaches speeds of up to 830 kilometers per hour, and the practical flight range is 10.5 thousand kilometers.

The maximum combat load of the aircraft reaches 20.8 tons. The Tu-95MS can carry six X-55 missiles on a drum-type launcher. In January, the deeply modernized Tu-95MSM made its first flight.

Earlier, the State Duma withdrew the ratification of the treaty banning nuclear weapons tests

On October 18, 2023, deputies of the State Duma of Russia adopted in the third reading a draft law on revoking the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Then the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs supported the initiative.

The withdrawal of ratification does not mean an automatic withdrawal from the CTBT. As reported in the explanatory note to the document, Moscow will continue to remain a party to it "with all the rights and obligations arising from this." "Implementation of the Federal law (...) will be a retaliatory measure against The United States, which for a long time has not taken and does not demonstrate its intention to take steps to ratify the CTBT in the foreseeable future," the document says.
