Uralvagonzavod to restart production of T-80 tanks
Uralvagonzavod Concern will resume the creation of T-80 tanks, which first entered service with the Soviet Army back in 1976. The upgraded versions of the machine performed well during the military operation in Ukraine, so it was decided to mass-produce, the concern said. There were about three thousand "eighties" in the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense in front of the SVO. For more information, see the material "Newspapers.Ru".
Russia plans to resume mass production of new T-80 tanks, said Alexander Potapov, CEO of Uralvagonzavod Concern. The cars performed well during the special operation in Ukraine, so it was decided to increase their number.
"There is such a task, at least the military has set it for us. And we are now actively interacting, working, working on these issues with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, because it requires, respectively, new capacities," Potapov said on the Zvezda TV channel.
T-80
The T-80 tank was produced in the USSR at the Omsk Plant of Transport Engineering. It first entered service with the Soviet Army in 1976. The car was favorably distinguished by the possibility of using a single gas turbine power plant, for which it was called "flying".
The most modern modification - the T-80BVM - is currently in service with the Russian Army. Modernization and overhaul of previously released T-80 are also carried out at the Omsk Plant of Transport Engineering (part of the UVZ).
Before the SVO, it was reported that there were about three thousand "eighty" in the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense, which made up the strategic reserve.
The most important tank
Retired colonel, military expert Anatoly Matviychuk called the T-80 the main battle tank of the Russian army. Its main feature is that the engine can be either diesel or gas turbine.
Vladimir Prokhvatilov, a senior researcher at the Academy of Military Sciences, proposed in the future to equip the T-80 with modern means of protection against missile strikes and drone attacks.
"I think we need to put the most modern means of protection against missile strikes and drone strikes. You can leave a lot as it is, but from these attacks it is necessary to improve the means of protection, and in any tanks, not only on the T-80. That's the main thing right now. You can arm tanks with your own drones," he said in an interview with News.ru .
T-72B3 and T-90M tanks
In July, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that Uralvagonzavod had delivered a new batch of T-72B3 and T-90M tanks to the troops, increasing production rates more than three times over the past year.
The T-72B3 is the main Russian battle tank and the basis of the tank fleet of the Russian Army, which has become an alternative to the T-90A. The T-90M is a deeply modernized version of the T-90A, and at the moment is the most modern Russian tank, with the exception of the T-14.
