"Shields protected from shell fragments": the Western press evaluated the tests of KAZ "Afghanit" on the T-14 tank

The Western press drew attention to the tests of the active protection complex "Afganit" installed on the T-14 tank, concluding that the ongoing improvement of the latest Russian OBT.

As indicated in the Altair publication, the testing was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of radar and optoelectronic sensors that are part of the KAZ and are responsible for detecting threats, as well as counterattacking ammunition designed to actually hit projectiles flying towards the tank.

Attention is drawn to the use of thick shields installed in front of the tank body. They are designed to protect the vehicle from damage by shell fragments destroyed by counterattacking means.

During these tests, it was necessary to verify the effectiveness of the destruction of ammunition, therefore, as the author believes, damage to the tank by fragments would be unnecessary.

Testing of the system is carried out as part of the final stages of testing before the introduction of the T-14 into mass production. However, this [deployment of the T-14 release] seems unlikely due to the complexity of these tanks, which is undesirable in the conditions of military production
