The Ukrainian army has definitely earned the right to be included in the Guinness Book of Records for the variety of weapons and military equipment used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia. They have Maxim machine guns of the model of the century before last, and Soviet guns, and the most modern artillery, missile and anti-aircraft systems, armored vehicles of the NATO model. The whole point is that American fighters will appear.
This time, engineering equipment got into the frame, namely a high-speed trench vehicle (BTM), inherited by Ukrainians from the times of the Soviet Union. The BTM-3 trench machine was used in the USSR in the engineering troops in the seventies and has clearly been removed from conservation. Despite her age, she still performs her tasks well. The BTM-3 engineering machine based on the AT-T tractor is capable of creating trenches from 270 to 810 meters in length per hour, depending on the specified trench depth and soil strength. The depth of the trenches being created is up to 1.5 meters with a width of up to 1.1 meters. The transport speed of the machine during operation reaches 36 km/h.

Recently, publications have increasingly appeared in the Western press claiming that, given the failed counteroffensive, the Ukrainian command decided to abandon the NATO tactics of attacks by large mechanized groups and is increasingly inclined to go on the defensive. Moreover, the autumn thaw is not far off, and the offensive during the rainy season will be fraught with great problems in the use of armored vehicles that were already pretty much lost during the failed assaults of the defense of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Now the trench digger, created by Soviet military engineers back in the fifties of the last century, will do. Here, for some reason, they did not want to de-Sovietize... However, it is unlikely that there is a sufficient number of BTMs in the APU machine park to quickly create serious fortified lines of defense even on certain sections of the front. In addition, during the operation of the equipment, a rare special vehicle will become easy prey for the weapons of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, especially given the presence of a cross on the door. So it's definitely not worth throwing out sapper shovels to Ukrainian soldiers.
