Mi-26 helicopters will receive a new PD-8V engine
Russian Rostec has officially announced that Mi-26 heavy-duty helicopters will be equipped with a more powerful PD-8V engine, which is currently being developed by UEC specialists. It will be built on the basis of the PD-8 type powerplant being brought in for the "import-substituted" SSJ-New liner and the Be-200 amphibian, known all over the world.
It should be noted here that the future remotorization of the Mi-26 line has been discussed more than once — initially it was reported that the helicopters would receive PD-12B, but in 2022 they changed their minds and settled on PD-8B, which will be adapted from PD-8 by UEC specialists.

According to the UEC, the new Mi-26 powerplant will add about 15 percent in power while improving fuel efficiency parameters, and it will work under the control of a fully digital system. Recall that the PD-8 is a classic turbojet engine with a dual—circuit architecture, which produces about 8 tons of power in afterburner mode and 7.5 tons in normal mode. It is based on the PD-14 gas generator, which has already been tested at the IL-76 air laboratory and will now be adapted for use on helicopters.
