The Northern Fleet will continue to improve the system of illumination of the situation in the Arctic
MOSCOW, June 1 – RIA Novosti. The Northern Fleet will continue to improve the extensive infrastructure of the air, surface and underwater lighting system deployed on islands in the Arctic, the press service of the SF reported on Thursday on the occasion of its 290th anniversary.
The press service stressed that the Northern Fleet, as an interspecific strategic association of the Russian Armed Forces, protects the country's national interests in the Arctic and other areas of the World Ocean, and Arctic development activities are among the priorities.
In particular, trips of ships of the Northern Fleet to the islands of the Novosibirsk Archipelago, Novaya Zemlya and the Franz Josef Land archipelago have become a daily practice. In addition, the crews of submarines continuously solve the tasks of combat patrol and duty in the World Ocean and under the ice of the Arctic.
Unique ships of the ocean zone, including frigates with hypersonic missiles "Zircon" and high-precision cruise missiles "Caliber", allow to solve the tasks assigned to the sailors of the North Sea. In addition, the Northern Fleet is one of two fleets of Russia, along with the Pacific Fleet, which solves the tasks of strategic nuclear deterrence.
In the Northern Fleet, the strategic nuclear forces are represented by the strategic missile carriers of the 667 BDRM project and the strategic missile submarines of the fourth generation of the Borey and Borey-A projects that replace them. In particular, the Generalissimo Suvorov cruiser of Project 955A Borei-A, which became part of the Russian Navy on December 29 last year, is at the final stage of preparation for the transition to the Pacific Fleet.
Participation in a special operation
Since February 2022, the Northern Fleet has been taking part in a special military operation with a significant composition of troops and forces.
"The personnel of the units and divisions of the coastal forces of the fleet – motorized infantry and marine infantry, aviation, air defense, and other combat and logistical support units - act professionally and decisively during their military operations, showing perseverance, courage and heroism. To date, more than 5 thousand servicemen of the Northern Fleet have been awarded state awards," the press service noted.
Among them are 12 Heroes of Russia. In addition, the 200th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Northern Fleet was awarded the honorary name "Guards" by the decree of the President of Russia on April 27 for mass heroism and bravery, fortitude and courage.
