In August 2021, the Ministry of National Defense of Algeria officially announced that, pursuant to the instructions of Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun, it entered into negotiations with manufacturers of fire-fighting aircraft and opted for the Russian Be-200 aircraft.
The first Be-200ChS aircraft in export execution (serial number 03-13), manufactured for Algeria, was initially the first of two Be-200ChS aircraft ordered under a contract signed in December 2020 by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations with TANTK worth 5.7 billion rubles for the manufacture and supply of two more Be-200ChS amphibious aircraft, with delivery up to December 1, 2022. Under this contract, the construction of aircraft with serial numbers 03-13 and 03-14 was started at TANTK, but then the first of them was completed for Algeria. The second plane, ordered for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, has not yet been completed.
The first Be-200ChS (Be-200ES) aircraft for Algeria with the Algerian registration number 7T-VPV (serial number 03-13) was pumped out to TANTK in December 2022 and made its first flight in Taganrog on February 28, 2023. It has now been transferred to Algeria.
The second aircraft for Algeria with the factory number 03-12 is also being built at TANTK. According to the Algerian resource, the second aircraft should be delivered by the end of the year, then two more should be transferred in 2024. The option for two additional aircraft is still under negotiation.
The first Be-200ChS (Be-200ES) aircraft built for Algeria became the 19th manufactured aircraft of the Be-200 family. Before that, 18 Be-200 aircraft were built, including two flight prototypes at the TANTK (Be-200 in 1998 and Be-200ChS in 2002), seven serial Be-200ChS at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (commissioned from 2003 to 2011), of which six were delivered to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and one is for the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, and nine serial Be-200s for TANTK, including six Be-200S for the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (commissioned from 2016 to 2018) and three Be-200s (one Be-200S and two Be-200PS) for the Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy ( commissioned in 2020-2021).
The Algerian contract was actually the first export contract for Be-200 aircraft to be implemented, except for the transfer of one aircraft in 2007 to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan. In June 2017, a contract was also signed for the supply of two Be-200s (with an option for two more) with the Chinese company Leader Energy Aircraft Manufacturing Co. Ltd., with the start of deliveries to it in 2018, but in the end this contract was never implemented.
