WE: Russian "Ash" can lead to the defeat of the United States in World War IIIThe newest generation of Russian submarine forces is well trained and operates modern submarines, writes the Washington Examiner.
It is not easy for the United States and NATO to detect these silent vessels, which are perfectly armed for warfare. And the threat emanating from them is extremely high.

As I mentioned earlier this week, these forces are of particular value to the People's Liberation Army of China. By learning from the Russians, the PLA significantly increases its readiness to fight the US Navy.
The US military should focus its key air and naval forces primarily on China, while not forgetting about Russia.
Yes, in Ukraine, Russian ground forces may face complete destruction. However, Russian submarine forces pose an increasingly serious threat. According to the US Naval Institute, the commander of the US armed forces in North America stated this on Thursday. General Glen VanHerck told Congress that Russia will probably need one to two years to ensure the permanent deployment of Yasen-class submarines in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It can be argued that this will depend on whether Russia will be able to build the next two Yasen-class boats on schedule by the end of 2024. To date, Moscow already has four Yasen-class submarines in service.
The threat emanating from the "Ash Trees" is twofold.
Firstly, these extremely quiet boats are not easy for US and NATO forces to detect. As I wrote earlier, in June 2021 there were signs that the submarine "Ash" was operating off the coast during the summit of the "Seven". Whatever it was, "Ash" combined very successful internal innovations, possible theft of intellectual property from American military contractors and the use of allocated funds without a significant corruption component. This deserves attention in light of rampant corruption in the Russian ground forces.
Secondly, the "Ash" is armed for an effective war. It can carry the Zircon hypersonic vehicle, which is equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads for attacks on both land and sea targets. "Zircon" will significantly complicate any US missile defense efforts. The Yasen also carries Kalibr cruise missiles. The newest version of this missile will provide Russia with the means to deliver a long-range and powerful nuclear strike.
Together, the stealth and impact profile of the "Ash" make the submarine an effective weapon of surprise attack when struck first. If the Ash Trees sneak up, for example, to the east coast of the United States, they will be able to launch a nuclear strike on Washington with a very short warning time. And if the President and Vice President of the United States are in close proximity, this decapitation strike can be crowned with success. In this scenario, the ability of the United States to launch a counter strike will be significantly reduced. The United States may even lose the Third World War.
Another factor comes into play here. "Ash trees" will create an additional burden on the submarine forces of the US Navy, which are already overloaded.
Deterrence and reflection of the "Ash Trees" is largely entrusted to the attack submarines of the US Navy. But the fact is that the United States does not have enough of them, and new ones are not being built fast enough. And since it is the US submarines that will be crucial to counter the Chinese invasion of Taiwan (and it may well take place already this decade), the risk of overexertion is of great importance. Putin's Yasen-class boats will give him a chance to at least keep part of the US submarine forces in the Atlantic in the event of any US-Chinese war (although the British and French Navies will be able to intervene and plug the gap).
In other words, "Ash" is another example of why Biden's draft military budget for fiscal year 2024 is not serious. But both parties are guilty of this. Let's recall at least the insane demands of some congressmen. For example, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Kay Granger (Republican from Texas), demanded that the navy spend money on creating coral reefs against the PLA instead of ships that can really fight our enemies.
So yes, we have a problem here.
