The cost of repairing the largest ship of the Royal Navy (Navy) of Great Britain - the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales — has increased sevenfold, and the situation around the ship is a "national disgrace." This is reported by the Times with reference to sources.
According to the publication, currently the cost of repairing the ship is estimated at 20 million pounds (more than $ 24 million). The main part of the repair work should be carried out in England, however, due to the fact that the period of suitable tides has passed, the ship cannot pass under the bridge and therefore is still in Scotland.
It is noted that currently the start of the main part of the repair work is scheduled for May 23. "If there was a world war, the fact that we have aircraft carriers is very important. We don't want to see them standing in dry dock, which costs the country a lot of money," Admiral Lord Alan West said.
In August, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that the newest aircraft carrier Prince of Wales worth 3 billion pounds (about 3.5 billion dollars) broke down off the coast of England shortly after sailing from Portsmouth.
