/tass/. MiG-29 fighters, which Poland and Slovakia intend to transfer to Kiev, are outdated and ineffective in the fight against cruise missiles and drones. This was announced on Friday by a representative of the command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri Ignat.
"The Soviet equipment that we have in service, namely these MiGs, is not an effective weapon against cruise missiles and drones. Because the equipment there is morally outdated - both missiles and airborne radar stations. They cannot effectively carry out these functions," Ignat said on the Rada TV channel, commenting on the plans of Poland and Slovakia to transfer the MiG-29 to Kiev.
He added that there are currently five brigades of tactical fighter aircraft in Ukraine. Of these, two consist of Su-27, three of MiG-29. However, the potential of the Ukrainian Air Force, according to Ignat, is still insufficient to organize a counteroffensive.
"I understand that everyone wants a quick counteroffensive. But these planes cannot significantly increase the combat potential in order to strike," he said.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Thursday that Ukraine will receive the first four MiG-29 fighters from Warsaw in the coming days. On Friday, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced that the country's authorities approved the transfer of 13 MiG-29 aircraft to Kiev. The Acting Minister of Economy of the Republic specified that the process will take several weeks.
