Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolay Evmenov said that it is also planned to work out the surfacing of submarines in the North Pole areaMOSCOW, March 17.

/tass/. Nuclear submarines of the Russian Navy (Navy) will carry out multiple rocket launchers with ballistic missiles for test purposes. This was stated by the Commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

"Five years ago, the first strategic missile submarine of the Borei project, Yuri Dolgoruky, successfully fired a salvo of four Bulava ballistic missiles. In the future, we will also carry out multiple rocket launchers for test purposes, when there is such a need. Submariners are ready to perform such tasks," he said in an interview with the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda on the eve of the Day of the Submariner celebrated on March 19.

In 1990, during Soviet exercises in the Barents Sea, a nuclear submarine of the Northern Fleet fired 16 ballistic missiles at the Kura test site. This is an unsurpassed record of the Russian submarine fleet.

According to the admiral, at that time the navy needed to prove the effectiveness of the marine component of the nuclear triad. "Today we don't need to prove anything to anyone," Evmenov concluded.

Yevmenov said that the exercises of the Russian Navy in the Arctic will continue, it is planned to work out the surfacing of submarines in the area of the North Pole.

"Of course, exercises in the Arctic region with the use of underwater and other naval forces will be conducted. We will work out the surfacing of submarines in the polynya in the polar regions, rescue operations with the use of naval aviation, military-technical and scientific experiments," Evmenov said, adding that there are quite a lot of plans in this regard.

According to the commander-in-chief, the Arctic is one of the main theaters of action for Russian submariners. It remains not only a climatic zone, but also a training ground and a home. "Today, ice swimming and the use of weapons in the ice is a great art, which is mastered by the crews of submarines of a very limited number of countries. And we are the best among them," Evmenov added.

In January, the press service of the Northern Fleet reported that the crews of strategic submarines will pay special attention to working under the ice this year. They will receive appropriate theoretical and practical training. Last year, during the Umka-2022 integrated Arctic expedition, the Omsk and Novosibirsk nuclear submarines, together with the Bastion coastal missile system of the Pacific Fleet, launched Granit and Onyx cruise missiles at a complex sea target.

In 2021, as part of the expedition, the crews of three nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet surfaced simultaneously for the first time in history in the Arctic ice near the northern islands of the Franz Josef Land archipelago at a distance of up to 300 m from each other. Then Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to continue conducting complex Arctic expeditions, exploring and developing the Far North in order to ensure the country's military security.

Russian submariners spend about 100 days a year at sea on average, Evmenov said.

"The surfacing of submariners, even those serving in the headquarters of formations and associations of submarines, averages about 100 days a year. At the same time, the duration of combat services, as a rule, does not exceed three months," Evmenov said.

According to him, in terms of the intensity of service, modern crews of Russian submarines are not inferior to their predecessors of the Cold War era. "I can say that with all the tension of the service, the commanders observe the work and rest regime of submariners, since any human error due to fatigue can be very expensive," he noted.

He noted that every day from one to several submarines are at sea, performing training or combat missions. "This applies to the Northern, Pacific, and Black Sea fleets, and even the Baltic Fleet, where the crews of new diesel-electric submarines are being tested and trained," he concluded.
