Moscow. March 7. INTERFAX - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kronstadt diesel-electric submarine of Project 677 Lada, which is undergoing testing, will become part of the Northern Fleet, it will be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles.
"The first issue on the agenda is the progress of the construction of the large submarine Kronstadt, which will become part of the Northern Fleet," Shoigu said at a conference call on Tuesday.
"The ship is planned to be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, the latest radar, sonar, navigation systems and systems," the Defense Minister said.
According to him, this equipment will significantly increase the combat effectiveness of the submarine.
Shoigu also said that during the conference call, measures to ensure the timely delivery of the ship will be considered, the timing of its state tests and commissioning of the Russian Navy will be clarified.
The Kronstadt submarine of Project 677 Lada belongs to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines. They are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases, the sea coast and sea communications, as well as launch a missile strike on enemy coastal facilities.
