The Russian Mercury corvette Project 20380 successfully shot down a target missile as part of state tests in the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Western Military District.
It is noted that the crew of the ship successfully fired from the anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) "Redut" at the target missile, which imitated the anti-ship cruise missile (RCC) of the enemy. As an aerial target, a PKR was used, which was fired from a small missile ship of the Baltic Fleet "Passat".
"An anti-aircraft missile launched from a corvette successfully hit the designated target. The shooting was carried out in a difficult jamming situation with the use of electronic countermeasures by the "enemy"," the report says.
The Baltflot naval training ground, where the exercise took place, was declared temporarily dangerous for civilian shipping. Test firing was provided by about ten ships and fleet support vessels.
The Mercury guided missile corvette was launched in 2020. The ship is designed for patrolling, fighting surface and underwater ships, as well as enemy aircraft. Mercury received the Uranus complex with X-35 anti-ship missiles, the Paket-NK anti-submarine complex and artillery installations.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that in 2023 the Russian Navy will receive the frigate Admiral Golovko and the corvette Mercury. The frigate will be part of the Northern Fleet, and the corvette will be part of the Black Sea Fleet.
