Kongsberg Digital has received a contract for the supply of new simulators from Capital, which implements Project Selborne, a program for modernization and training of Royal Navy sailors.

Kongsberg Digital simulation technology ensures that Royal Navy personnel will be able to maximize operational efficiency in all types of situations, from commanding a single unit to resupply at sea and task force maneuvers, day and night, and in all weather conditions. Simulators will allow teams to train together with several vessels (ships) under the same scenarios, reducing the associated risks, logistics and costs of maritime training programs. In the future, the new simulators will be able to integrate into various educational institutions, which will allow groups of sailors from the Royal Naval College of Britain (BRNC), HMS Collingwood and HMNB Faslane to work together.

Existing simulators that have served the Royal Navy for the past 20 years will be replaced with advanced simulators to support the next generation of Warfare Branch personnel. Additional simulators will be installed on HMS Collingwood, which will increase the throughput and sustainability of training.

Using customizable configurations and tools, teams will be able to experience maximum realism in various training scenarios. Advanced engineering and hydrodynamic modeling in simulators provides realistic behavior of ships, facilities and equipment, giving personnel the opportunity to solve future tasks in various operations.

In addition, for the first time, virtual reality headsets will be used to provide training for activities such as resupply at sea. Previously, such actions were not practiced on simulators in the British Navy. Reportedly, no special attention was paid to them. Now, due to the fact that the logistics of replenishment of the squadron can be extremely difficult, the situation is also being analyzed in the format of computer modeling, including on the specified simulator.

According to experts, this new set of simulators will not only create realistic training scenarios for trainees of the Royal Navy of Great Britain, but also ensure the sustainability of the Navy training program, allowing testing and releasing regular updates without downtime.
