The Americans, despite all their economic opportunities, are still trying to catch up with China and Russia in the development of hypersonic weapons.
The US Navy plans to test-launch a hypersonic missile from the destroyer USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) in December 2025.
According to Captain Tyson Young, at least five specialized officers have been involved in the implementation of this project.
Young said.
Yang clarified that the work on preparing Zumwalt-class destroyers for hypersonic missile launches will simplify this process on Virginia-class attack submarines.
Last month, the US Navy signed a $10.5 million contract with HII Ingalls Shipbuilding for the modernization of the ships USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) and USS Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001). The country's Navy says it wants to use hypersonic weapons on Zumwalt-class ships in 2025 and Virginia-class submarines in 2028.
About 12 missiles can be placed on board each Zumwalt-class destroyer. However, the main problem so far - the unsuitable dimensions of the cells of the launch containers remains unresolved. Including for this purpose, the United States is going to allocate money for the next restructuring of stealth destroyers, which will not find any use in any way.
