The frigate "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov", performing the tasks of a long-range campaign, for the first time in the framework of international exercises will perform a combat training launch of a hypersonic missile "Zircon". This will happen during the exercises of the naval forces of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) and China, a source close to the military-industrial complex told TASS.
"During the upcoming exercises with the South African and Chinese Navies in February, for the first time during such an event, an episode with a combat training launch of a hypersonic Zircon from a ship will be worked out," he said.
According to him, "Zircon" will hit a surface target at a range of over 500 km.

The frigate went on a long voyage in early January. On January 25, the Russian Defense Ministry for the first time published footage of the electronic launch of the Zircon rocket from a ship that was then in the western Atlantic Ocean. On January 25, the military department also announced that in February the frigate will take part in joint exercises with the Navies of the People's Liberation Army of China and South Africa.
Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov is the main multipurpose frigate of the project 22350 of the far sea and ocean zone, built at the Severnaya Verf plant (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC). Joined the Russian Navy in July 2018. In December 2022, he made an inter-fleet crossing and arrived at the main base of the Northern Fleet - the city of Severomorsk - after scheduled maintenance at the Kronstadt Marine Plant.
The main strike weapon is the Kalibr-NK missile system. The ship took an active part in the tests of the newest hypersonic missile "Zircon" developed and manufactured by the Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering (part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation).
