Beijing. January 31. INTERFAX - The shipbuilding industry of China retained its leading position in the world last year for the thirteenth consecutive year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the country reported.
In 2022, the construction of vessels with a total deadweight of 37.86 million tons was completed in the country. Thus, China accounted for 47.3% of all ships built in the world, compared to 47.2% in 2021.
New orders for the construction of ships in China last year amounted to 45.52 million tons of total deadweight. China accounted for 55.2% of all new orders in the world.
At the end of December, the total volume of orders from Chinese shipbuilding companies reached 105.57 million tons of deadweight. According to this indicator, China occupied 49% of the global indicator, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The ministry also noted that last year six Chinese companies entered the top 10 largest shipbuilders in the world.
"The shipbuilding industry has now entered a recovery cycle, showing a steady upward trend," said Cao Bo of the China Shipbuilding Industry Association (CANSI).
He noted, in particular, significant progress in the construction of ships for the transportation of liquefied natural gas. In 2022, Chinese companies received 55 orders for LNG tankers, which exceeds 30% of the total number in the world and is a record for the country.
