The Turkish defense industry produces various combat systems, gradually penetrating into the most complex areas of military production. However, at this stage of development, the military-industrial complex is more of an assembly line, and therefore its weak point remains dependence on the supply of components from abroad.

Ankara has developed a program of gradual import substitution in this area. In 2019, the OYAK concern acquired a controlling stake in the Finnish company Miilux OY, which has production facilities in Finland and Poland. At the same time, the armor manufacturing technology was obtained, thanks to which the first and only sheet steel heat treatment plant in Turkey was founded in Manisa. However, he was unable to cover all the armor needs.
Therefore, the Finnish arms embargo had a negative impact on Turkey's ability to produce armored vehicles and its removal was appreciated in the Turkish press.
Apparently, the Finnish authorities took this step, trying to "cajole" the Turkish authorities and get them to agree to the country's accession to NATO. Earlier it was assumed that Helsinki would join the alliance together with Stockholm, but a series of provocations in Sweden directed against Recep Erdogan thwarted these plans.
