A linear diesel-electric icebreaker of the 21900M2 project will be built at the Vyborg Shipyard. The ship's laying ceremony took place today, November 16, 2022. This is reported by the portal <url>.
A new linear diesel-electric icebreaker with a capacity of 18 MW of Icebreaker7 ice class has been ordered by FSUE Rosmorport for year-round operation in the seaports of the Baltic (North-Western) basin. A similar icebreaker was laid down in 2020 at the German shipyard Pella Sietas in Hamburg, purchased by the Russian shipbuilding company Pella, but to work in the ports of the Far East.
Vyborg Shipyard in 2012-2016 built three linear diesel-electric icebreakers "Vladivostok", "Murmansk" and "Novorossiysk" of the basic project 21900M with a capacity of 18 MW, which proved themselves positively when working, including in the Arctic seas. After that, it was decided to modernize the project.
The icebreaker of the 21900M2 project was developed on the basis of the 21900M project and the preliminary design of the icebreaker developed by JSC KB Vimpel taking into account modern international convention requirements, including the reduction of harmful emissions of marine engines. The ice class of the new vessel has been upgraded to the Icebreaker7 level (independent navigation in ice up to 1.4 m thick in winter and up to 1.7 m in summer or behind an icebreaker in annual Arctic ice up to 2.0 m thick in winter and up to 3.2 m in summer).
The maximum length is 119.8 meters, the maximum width is 27.5 meters, draft is 8.5 meters, speed is 17 knots, displacement is 14,300 tons, power on screws is 18 MW. The crew is up to 35 people + up to 22 special personnel.
