The Russian military may test a "nuclear torpedo", referring to the Poseidon naval drone, American intelligence notes the preparation of surface ships and submarines for testing. This is reported by CNN with reference to a certain high-ranking American official who wished to remain anonymous.
American intelligence, according to this very official, has recently observed the preparation of Russian warships for a "possible" test of a "nuclear torpedo". This conclusion was made after the Russian special-purpose nuclear submarine Belgorod, which is the carrier of the Poseidon sea drones, was spotted in the group. However, the detachment of ships, together with the submarine, returned to their locations without conducting any tests.
According to the Americans, the Russians could have been prevented from testing the "nuclear torpedo" by "technical difficulties" allegedly arising from Western sanctions imposed against Russia. Allegedly, Russia is currently unable to produce high-tech weapons, which is allegedly confirmed by military actions in Ukraine, where "poorly trained and insufficiently equipped" Russian troops have invaded.
Now Washington fears that Russia will try to test Poseidon again in the near future, but they hope that this may be prevented by ice covering the Northern Fleet's sea ranges. At the same time, Americans do not believe that the tests will be associated with a real nuclear explosion.
The topic of possible tests of Poseidon naval drones is being discussed quite actively in NATO, the forces and means of the alliance are trying to track all the movements of the Belgorod submarine, which is the carrier of "nuclear torpedoes", as they are called in the West.
