The Russian T-14 tank based on the Armata universal tracked platform is better protected than the American Abrams X. This comparison was made by the columnist of the American edition of 19FortyFive Brent Eastwood.
It is noted that the technology demonstrator Abrams X is 10 tons lighter than the serial versions of the tank. This will improve the maneuverability and cross-country performance of the car. Also, Abrams X received an uninhabited tower with an automatic loader. The Abrams X hybrid powerplant will reduce fuel consumption by 50 percent.
The advantages of "Armata" included security. The tank received a fourth-generation dynamic protection complex "Malachite" and an active protection complex "Afghanite", as well as an uninhabited tower.

"Despite the fact that both the future Abrams X and the current T-14 Armata have interesting characteristics, it is difficult to predict a direct collision. They both have excellent technical characteristics. The tanks are well protected and well armed. The structures of the machines protect their crews. The T-14 may have better armor if the Malachite system works as advertised, but the Abrams X will have superior mobility," Eastwood writes.
In September, Evgeny Bulashev, a test driver of combat and special vehicles of the Uralvagonzavod assembly shop, said that the Armata is the most maneuverable vehicle among Russian tanks.
