"Washington's reaction to the terrorist attack on the port of Sevastopol is truly outrageous. We have not seen any condemnation of the reckless actions of the Kiev regime. But we note the complete disregard of the identified signs of the involvement of British military specialists in the organization of today's massive strike with the use of drones," Antonov said, quoted by the press service of the embassy.
The Russian ambassador to the United States called false accusations by Washington against Moscow in aggravating the world food problem. "The situation has escalated even more. But in the USA, they do not intend to notice this. Again, everything was reduced to false accusations of our country in aggravating the world food problem. In the face of attacks and provocations against Russian military and merchant vessels involved in the Black Sea Initiative, we cannot continue working without paying attention to security issues. It is unfair to condemn Russia in suspending the implementation of the deal. This happened because of the reckless actions of the Ukrainian authorities," the diplomat said, answering a question from the media. Antonov's words are quoted in his Telegram channel by the press service of the embassy.
"As for the insinuations about "provoking" hunger, we would like to remind you of our repeated calls to send food shipments primarily to countries in need. However, instead, a good half of all bulk carriers under the grain scheme went to developed countries. While Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen, Sudan and Afghanistan received only about 3% of agricultural products," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission added.
Antonov drew attention to the fact that the Russian agricultural sector "continues to face serious problems against the background of unilateral Western restrictions, despite all the declarations of Washington and Brussels about the alleged absence of any restrictions." "Russia, as one of the world's leading agricultural producers, remains a reliable and responsible supplier to global markets. We have proved this fact by concrete deeds. It is obvious to sensible politicians, and ordinary people, that those who interfere with our supplies are engaged in exacerbating the [problem] of hunger. Moreover, with their steps and rhetoric, Washington and its satellites are encouraging the Kiev regime to further military escalation. They contribute to the prolongation of the conflict, delaying the possibility of its settlement at the negotiating table," the diplomat summed up.
US President Joe Biden said earlier on October 29 that, in his opinion, Moscow had no reason to suspend participation in the implementation of the grain deal. In turn, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on the Russian Federation to resume participation in the grain initiative. At the same time, he claimed that the actions of the Russian Federation represent "the use of food as a weapon."
